Interhouse Softball & Hockey 2011

After winning the House Singing Competition, Irinians were full with enthusiasm to win the next competition : Interhouse Softball. The ringing of the bell and house prefects shouting “SOFTBALL PRACTICE! OUT OF HOUSE!” were heard almost every single day as we practice hard to prepare for the competition.

It was awesome to see the students practicing so hard to prepare. Madam Yeoh turned out to be a huge help as she consistently trained us. Ms Angie and Ms Pathma took turns to help out with practices and gave tremendous support. Even Matron Ivy took part by attending to the injured people and helped them to recover fast.

The immense practices paid off when Irinah was announced champions for both Junior and Senior categories. It was amazing how one Irinah batter after another touched home base. Irinians were dominating the field with their house spirit, and cheers were heard all over the field. Everyone was ecstatic at the end, but that was just the beginning of a string of victories.

The end of the year does not only mean holidays – but it also means it was the time for our last interhouse competition for the year – Interhouse Hockey. Although we had our practices in between our examinations, everyone gave their full commitment to the practices and managed to turn up. Even the seniors who were in the midst of their examinations turned up for the match – right after sitting for her paper!

During the matches, the players were tested physically and mentally. With matches being postponed due to the bad weather and other reasons, we managed to keep up the spirit and persevered. The matches were tough, and the other houses gave a good fight, but in the end, we prevailed and won all our matches. Irinah was, yet again, crowned champions for both categories.

The dedication of Madam Yeoh, the support from Ms Angie and Ms Pathma, the help of Matron Ivy, the burning spirit of the players and the confidence injected by the other Irinians were the main reasons why Irinah emerged as champions. The cheerleaders once again showed that their support and encouragements were the main reasons why the players stayed on and did not give up.

Keep up the winning streak for this year Irinah!!

House Singing Champions 2011

Animated.

Buoyant.

Charming.

As effortless as ABC, Irinah girls showcased our confidence, merriment, showmanship and talents through the colourful rendition of ‘Girls Just Wanna Have Fun’. We could hear excited cheers from the crowd from the moment the opening drama began, which gave us all the moral support we needed. It was ceaseless entertainment. Our solo singers amazed the audience with their excellent vocals; our musicians exhibited their outstanding skills with their instruments; the rest of us sang in harmony and danced to our hearts’ content. It was a great night, and we definitely had fun.

Indeed, there is more to winning. The many good hours of practice made unity a priority. Our girls made new friends among each other, regardless of seniority and cultural variations. Everyone was constantly contributing ideas for our routine; everyone was sharing. Everything was done together, from designing and making the props to choreographing the dance steps. We learnt that success could only be achieved through strong perseverance and a high level of discipline. We truly appreciate the endless encouragements given by our beloved housemistress, house tutors, and even our matron.

I can only say that these moments are ones for us to cherish throughout a lifetime. House Singing was all good fun, and even more to learn from.

Eagle Ranch Outing

For this term's House Night, we went to Eagle Ranch in Port Dickson to do activites that truly tested the Irinian spirit. The various rope activities were a challenge - especially because there were a few girls who were scared of heights. However, even they were able to complete the activities with the endless encouragement from their teammates. We also finished a hardcore obstacle course. And believe us, if we didn't know how to work as a team, we would never have been able to finish it! We ended the adventurous day with an exquisite "buka puasa" where all the Muslim girls and non-Muslim girls dined together.

Swimming Gala 2011

Practices for swimming gala lasted for about a month. Irinah house began their swimming sessions with tryouts for all Irinians and we shortlisted names of swimmers before our next swimming session.


Although the girls did not show much enthusiasm at the start and were quite reluctant to follow the designed drills and workouts, after a few swimming sessions, they got used the trainings and were able to stick to the plans. Further down the practices, the girls even began to have fun.

One week before the actual swimming gala, the girls were anxious and scared. They doubted their capabilities and had low self-confidence though they had sufficient practices and showed great improvements throughout their swimming sessions. The night before the event, we gave them a motivational pep talk to boost their confidence as well as give them the encouragement to face the swimming gala.


Many girls were nervous right before their events and the non-participating lower sixes were all there to provide them with encouragement and support, giving them confidence to participate in their respective events. Tears were shed, as some of them thought they were the reason why the team lost, some on the other hand shed tears of joy.

We might not have won many medals or achieved first place overall, however, we are all still winners because we gained a priceless experience which will guide us a long way through in the future. It does not matter which placing we achieve as long as we exhibited teamwork and worked our very best.

Athletics Gala 2011

Hey all :)

As we all know, the school had been hit with the Athletics fever at the end of last term. After a few weeks of practices, Irinah finally came in second place for both the Senior and Junior categories. The girls ran, threw and jumped as hard as they could. It was a splendid two-day event, with lots of medals coming in from every event.
 

The Juniors were leading the field event, but unfortunately they lost during the track events. Nevertheless, the Juniors made a remarkable achievement when Uzo broke the school record in the Junior Girls' Triple Jump, with a new record of 8.62m, beating fellow Irinian, Linda's record of 8.05m, set in 1999.

It was a challenging yet tiring event. Even though we didn't get first place, we were satisfied with the achievements we got. Congratulations to all Irinians who took part and did your best, and thank you to all the supporters for their constant cheers of encouragement. May Irinah shine in the next competition! :)
